1st Chronicle: SKYE- Rooftop Restaurant & Lounge Jakarta

What's a better beginning to a chronicle than starting a journey to my hometown, Jakarta, Indonesia. Get ready to experience a city that is filled with amazing food, landscape and of course the liberty to drink alcoholic beverages at the age of 16. But of course with these amazing features of Jakarta, you must always tag along with your parents that will force you to go to boring fine dining places and overrated tourism sites. Now, this is your time to be initiative and make your parents take a lovely walk off the beaten path of Jakarta.

The first stop that you need to visit is SKYE- Rooftop Restaurant & Lounge. In this contemporary and sophisticated place, you can enjoy a dining experience like no other on the 56th floor rooftop of a central Jakarta office tower. This is the first ever restaurant in Jakarta that introduce a high quality rooftop venue with an open rooftop garden to enjoy the panoramic view of Jakarta. This is the perfect place for you and your parents to enjoy a casual dining experience while enjoying the magnificent view with a glass of Skye's original Ginger Mojito.

SKYE also offers a wide range of culinary that specializes in American and Japanese-Chinese food. For appetizer, seared scallops is a must. This isn't just a plain-old seared scallops, rather it is a chili-crusted scallops with puffed rice, beef floss and ponzu drizzled on top that is beautifully seared with perfection. For those of your parents who are trying to keep their cholesterol level down (like my parents), they can order  Bubble 'n Squeak. This is undoubtedly one of the most delicious "healthy" food that I ate in my life. It is a sophisticated garlic bread with chorizo, potato, pumpkin, peas, spinach, cherry tomato and fried egg on top. When it comes to drinks, I recommend the fruity and sweet signature cocktails which go very well with SKYE's outdoor theme particularly the Shaman-Signature cocktail, which is a pomegranate and starfruit chucks blended with crush ice, Absolut Sitron and mint. There's also other unique cocktails such as Violet Margarita and Dragon Tattoo. If your parents are old-school and conservative a.k.a no alcoholic beverages allowed, then you can go with their signature mocktail, Apple Rosemary, which is a fresh apple juice with rosemary syrup, lemon juice, mint and basil leaves. For the main course, if you're craving for Japanese food, I recommend Scaterred Sushi. It is a deconstructed Sushi with Hamachi, Tuna, Salmon, Shima Aji and 10 other ingredients. Trust me, even with the countless ingredients they put in the sushi, you will experience a major foodgasm. I also recommend their succulent pork belly, sirloin strips and poached lobster. Lastly, your journey isn't complete with the amazing dessert that they offer at SKYE. SKYE's dessert is ranked top 10 in Jakarta. I need to insist you to order their chocolate bar pie that is served with home made mandarin ice cream. But that is not enough, you also need to order their white chocolate parfait with orange guava and dehydrated vanilla mousse. I can guarantee that even your "healthy-freak" parents with eat it even though they insist that they're trying to maintain their weight.

After you and your parents have a lovely family dining experience, it's time for you to leave your parents for a little while so they can have a romantic date with the amazing view of Jakarta outside the windows. Instead, you can step out to the rooftop garden and socialize with other teenagers. There's a section on the rooftop garden where only 16-18 years old teenagers are allowed. Here, you can chill out and order cocktails while making friends on the 56th floor of an office building in Jakarta. Wouldn't it be amazing if maybe, just maybe, you find your girlfriend at a rooftop garden in Jakarta?

  1. This place sounds amazing. The scallops especially jumped out at me because I love scallops so much. I would never even be able to get to dessert I would be so full after the appetizer and the meal. I would definitely take that chocolate desert to go though. On top of the amazing food the 16-18 year old club seems cool as well.
